Located in midst of Switzerland, our municipality is the centre of the upper Emmental.
![]() ![]() Langnau is the economic centre for about 50’000 inhabitants. It is the most important market place between Berne and Lucerne. Although small, it is appreciated for the atmosphere of a small town, inmidst a unique Emmental landscape dominated by a number of rolling hills. The contemplative approach of the population is open-minded and marks the living in a large village. This encourages the integration of newcomers. You will soon discover that our population expresses a lot of humour, is considerate and curious, but also shows some scepticism. ![]() Families are the backbone of Langnau society. They enjoy a wide variety of educational opportunities, good supply infrastructure, and public services including healthcare. A variety of clubs and associations cater to different interests in leisure. The scenery is dominated by a number of smoothly shaped hills and constitutes one of the attractions of the region. The area is one of the sunniest among the longest throughout Switzerland and is noted for the almost complete absence of fog. The economy is broadly based on small and mid range companies focused on manufacturing, trade, tourism and agriculture. These activities provide more than 4’000 jobs within the municipality. Langnau offers excellent public transport facilities. One can reach Berne, Burgdorf or Thun within 30 minutes; Lucerne, Langenthal, Solothurn or Fribourg in just over an hour. We highly recommend events like the Langnau Jazz Nights and the International Cartoon Festival. ![]() Statistical mirror (2010) Inhabitants: 9'553 among these 590 foreigners Households: 4'014 Working places: about 4’000 Community surface: 48 km2 of which 16.8 km2 forest Agricultural surface: 26.5 km2 Meters above sea level: 643 – 1'332 m Ø annual temperature: 7.2 degrees Celsius Ø annual precipitation: 1’360 mm Sunshine: Duration of sunshine is among the longest throughout Switzerland, almost no fog ![]() ![]() |
